ELIGIBILITY

PLEASE READ CAREFULLY BEFORE REACHING OUT WITH QUESTIONS

Eligibility for The Story Prize is limited to collections of short fiction (at least two stories and/or novellas) by a living author, written in English. Eligible books must be first publication of the work in the United States during the calendar year, in either hardcover or paperback, and available for purchase by the general public. Collections must also include work previously unpublished in book form.

Eligible books may be entered by the publisher, agent, or author. In addition to sending copies, the party entering the book must:

  • Submit a completed application form, along with the $75 entry fee. (Please contact us if this presents a hardship, and we will consider waiving the fee.) Note: We are not set up to receive electronic payments, so please factor this into your plans. However, special arrangements can be made at an additional cost to cover transaction fees.

  • Ensure that the author will be available to attend the awards ceremony in New York City, which is usually in March, if that book is chosen as a finalist.

  • Send copies of the book to the three judges if the book is chosen as a finalist.

Please send one copy of the entry form, two copies of the book (or one book and one ebook), and a check for $75 made out to 'The Story Prize' to:
